The Youth Committee is committed to introducing individuals  at least 12 years old to the safe enjoyment of rifle, shotgun, and archery shooting.  Typically, the NRA Rifle Safety Course, the NRA Shotgun Safety Course, and Boy Scouts Merit Badge Course are given once per year.  Instructors are NRA and Boy Scouts of America certified,  and the courses satisfy the requirements for Boy Scout merit badges.

Youth Information

This year we are again offering courses in the three disciplines:

  • Rifle           $20

  • Shotgun     $20

  • Archery       $20

You Must register In Advance for Rifle, Archery & Shotgun Courses.

The youths, boys and girls, are able to qualify for the NRA safety course as well as for the Boy Scouts Shooting sports merit badge in each discipline. The classes are limited to 15 for the shotgun and archery and 20 for the rifle course.

We have enjoyed a great response from the club members who served as coaches and Instructors. Several are NRA trained Certified Instructors in Rifle and Shotgun.

We hope to offer a Certified Instructor’s course next year to train the staff who participate in our events. We also applied for a NRA grant to help fund the youth program. In the past we have been successful receiving two grants from the NRA which provided us this the specialized equipment needed to properly and safely train the youth. This includes the Anschutz 1451 .22 cal rifles, the Remington and Tri-star youth model shotguns, and the Genesis compound bows to name some of our equipment.

The youth served not only come from the Scouting program but are either family members of the club members or sponsored by the club members. We always make room for the club members youth. There is a nominal fee charged in accordance with the club rules for all participants.

We have as a club have a modest history in serving the youth with some noticeable achievements. Several of the youth we have trained have gone on and been very successful at the NYS Empire Games and NRA sanctioned matches in 3 position small bore competition.
